Luggage Storage in Tbilisi: Lockers, Left Luggage and Prices

Tbilisi has lockers, left luggage rooms and storage apps. Here is where to leave bags, what it costs and the limits.

Tbilisi is a city of early arrivals and late departures, so plenty of travelers end up with a day to fill and a suitcase they don't want to drag up the Old Town hills. There are lockers, left luggage rooms, a 24-hour desk at the airport, storage apps and a monthly valet service, and most of them take cash only. Here's where to leave your bags, what each option costs and which one I'd pick for your situation.

Where to store luggage in Tbilisi: the options compared

There are 7 realistic places to leave a bag in Tbilisi, and they fall into three groups: walk-in rooms and lockers in the center, desks at the airport and the transport hubs, and apps or valet storage you book ahead. Here's how they line up.

My short answer: a big suitcase for a day goes to Pushkin Street, a daypack goes in a SmartCase locker, and anything longer than a week goes to Depot Storage.

SmartCase lockers at Freedom Square and the Old Town

SmartCase is the city's automated locker service, and its main bank of about 50 lockers sits in the archway by the Courtyard Marriott entrance on Freedom Square. It's a short walk from Freedom Square station on the Tbilisi metro and from the Pushkin Park stop where bus 337 from the airport lets you off. A second set of lockers is in the Meidan Palace business center on Kote Afkhazi Street, down in the Old Town near the baths.

You pick a locker on the screen, choose how long you need it and get a PIN code, then pay when you come back for your bag. The minimum is 8 hours. Expect 10 to 15 GEL for 8 hours and about 15 GEL for 24 hours on the smaller lockers, with lower daily rates after 3 days. If you come back late, the machine charges the extra time at the normal rate.

The catch is size. The Freedom Square lockers measure about 49 x 70 cm with a depth of only 18 to 28 cm, which takes a backpack or a daypack but not a medium suitcase. The Kote Afkhazi lockers are bigger, about 51 x 30 x 77 cm, roomy enough for a cabin-size case. When all of them are taken there's nowhere to put your bag, so have a backup in mind.

SmartCase sets a maximum storage period of 30 days, though the booking screen offers longer. Stick to 30. A bag left past the limit can be moved to another site and charged at triple the rate, and getting it back is a hassle you don't want on the way to the airport.

The left luggage room on Pushkin Street

This is my pick for a full-size suitcase in the center. At 11 Pushkin Street, look for the suitcase symbol on the gate and head down into an underground room lined with shelves. There are no lockers here: you hand your bag over, it goes on a shelf, and you pay 7 GEL per item per 24 hours whatever the size. A 30 kg case costs the same as a daypack, which makes it the best value in the city for anything big.

Pushkin Street runs along Pushkin Park off Freedom Square, so it's steps from the bus 337 stop and the metro. The room also takes bikes and skis, and it can print documents, which is handy for a boarding pass before a late flight. The owner's phone number is posted on the door, so if you find it shut, call rather than walk away.

Luggage storage at Tbilisi railway station

Tbilisi Central Station sits on Station Square, above the metro station of the same name, the only point where the two metro lines meet. Its left luggage office is in a prefab building at the far left end of platform 1, the platform the Batumi trains leave from. It charges 20 GEL per locker for 24 hours, and the price is the same for 1 hour or 24.

The lockers are big, enough for a duffel bag and a carry-on case together, so two people sharing one halves the cost. You show your passport so the attendant can write down your name, pay in cash up front and keep the paper receipt for pickup. The posted hours are 08:00 to 22:00, but it has been known to shut earlier, around 20:30, and there's a phone number on the door if you find it locked. Plan on collecting your bag by early evening.

I use it when I have a few hours before a train, since you can collect your bag and walk straight onto the platform. The fast Stadler trains on the Tbilisi to Batumi line sell out, so book the ticket before you plan the day around the left luggage office.

Luggage storage at Tbilisi Airport

The airport has its own left luggage desk in the arrivals hall, open 24 hours. It charges 10 GEL a day for bags up to 90 cm and 20 GEL a day for anything bigger, such as ski bags and bike boxes.

It earns its place in two cases. The first is a long layover, when you want to see the city without your bags. The second is a bag you won't need until you fly home: a winter coat in July, ski gear, or the empty suitcase you plan to fill with wine before you fly home. Leave it at the airport on arrival and collect it when you check in for your flight out.

For a day in the city before an evening flight, the airport desk is the wrong tool. The terminal is about 17 km from the center, and a Bolt costs 25 to 35 GEL each way, so a round trip to drop a bag costs more than a week at Pushkin Street. Bus 337 is the cheap alternative at 1 GEL, but it takes about an hour and stops running around 11 pm. Store the bag where you'll spend the day, and treat the airport run as a separate trip: the bus, Bolt and transfer options for getting from Tbilisi Airport to the city center work the same in reverse.

Left luggage at Didube and Ortachala bus stations

Didube, the main station for marshrutkas west and north (Kazbegi, Kutaisi, Batumi), and Ortachala, the coach station for the south and Armenia, both have small left luggage rooms. At Didube it's near the stop for the Kazbegi marshrutkas. They charge 2 to 5 GEL per hour.

Hourly pricing makes them a short-stop option only. An 8-hour day costs 16 to 40 GEL, already more than the central options, and I wouldn't leave anything I'd miss there overnight. They're fine for an hour while you grab lunch before a marshrutka: the run from Tbilisi to Kazbegi leaves Didube hourly from 07:00 to 17:00 for 15 GEL, and if you're coming back in a day or two, the big case is better off in the center.

Luggage storage apps: LuggageHero, Radical Storage and Qeepl

Storage apps sign up shops, cafes and small hotels as drop-off points. You book a slot in the app, show the booking when you hand over your bag, and collect it whenever you like within the shop's hours. Three of them cover Tbilisi.

AppPriceHow you payWhere in Tbilisi
LuggageHeroFrom $1.49 per hour, then $4.90 per bag per day from day 2, plus a $1.60 one-time fee per bagCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal at pickupPartner shops near metro stops and the main sights
Radical StorageAbout €5 per bag per dayOnline, booked aheadNear Freedom Square (08:00 to 23:00), by Rustaveli metro (06:00 to 23:00), near the Concert Hall (10:00 to 19:00), and a 24-hour spot by the train station
QeeplFrom 9.29 GEL per bag per dayOnline, booked aheadSpots around the city, including one near the airport open 10:00 to 19:00

The apps cost more than Pushkin Street for a big bag, but they solve two problems the walk-in options don't: paying by card, and having a confirmed spot before you arrive. The 24-hour Radical Storage partner by the station is the one I'd book for a late train or an early-morning bus from Station Square.

Long-term luggage storage with Depot Storage

If you're heading off for a week in the mountains, two weeks on a Caucasus itinerary through Armenia and Azerbaijan, or flying out and coming back in a month, a valet service beats every daily option. Depot Storage is the one I'd use. You book online, they collect your bags for free from any central Tbilisi address, label and scan each one in front of you, and keep them in a secure warehouse. Bringing them back costs 10 GEL per delivery.

Pricing is per bag, per month, by weight. Plans start from 50 GEL a month, and a part month is billed as a full 30 days.

ItemPrice per month
Small bag, up to 10 kg10 GEL
Medium bag, up to 20 kg20 GEL
Large bag, up to 30 kg30 GEL
Extra large bag, up to 40 kg40 GEL
Bicycle10 GEL
Skis35 GEL

They also rent self-storage units if you're moving between apartments. Book a few days ahead where you can; last-minute requests often work, but you don't want a pickup slot to be the thing that holds up a departure.

Leaving bags at your hotel or hostel

Before you pay anyone, ask where you're staying. Most hotels, guesthouses and hostels in Tbilisi keep guests' bags behind reception on arrival day and checkout day at no charge, and that covers the most common case: an early landing or a late flight. Some hostels hold bags for guests only, so if you're browsing the best hostels in Tbilisi for a cheap night, check the luggage policy alongside the bed price.

Apartment rentals are the exception. With self check-in there's often no one to hand a bag to, so ask the host before you book, or use one of the central options above for the gap between checkout and your flight.

What luggage storage costs in Tbilisi

Here's what one big checked suitcase costs at each option, for a day, a long weekend away and a two-week trip out of the city.

For one day, Pushkin Street wins easily. For two or three days it still wins; the only reason to pick a SmartCase locker over it is round-the-clock access. Past about a week, Depot Storage becomes the cheapest way to store a big suitcase in Tbilisi, before you even count the free pickup.

Which luggage storage to use, by situation

  • A free day before a late flight: Leave a suitcase at Pushkin Street or a backpack in a SmartCase locker, collect it in the evening and order a Bolt to the airport from there. Taxis in Tbilisi run on apps with the price fixed at booking, so you know the 25 to 35 GEL fare before you get in.
  • Landing at dawn before check-in: Your hotel first. With no reception, a SmartCase locker takes a backpack at any hour, and the airport desk holds a full suitcase around the clock. Envoy Hostel's 24-hour desk on Betlemi Street, the old night fallback in the Old Town, is shut for renovation until at least the end of 2026.
  • A night or two out of town: Pack a daypack and leave the big case in Tbilisi. If your hotel will hold it until you're back, that's free; if not, Pushkin Street at 7 GEL a day is the cheapest choice. Skip the bus station rooms for anything overnight, on a trip to Kazbegi or east to Sighnaghi.
  • A few hours before a train: The left luggage office on platform 1 at the railway station, or the 24-hour app partner nearby if your train leaves late.
  • A layover, or a bag you won't need until you fly home: The airport desk in the arrivals hall, at 10 GEL a day.
  • A week or more away: Depot Storage, with free pickup and monthly pricing.

Keeping valuables safe in storage

Violent crime is rare in Tbilisi and tourists are seldom targeted, which is why my honest answer to is Tbilisi safe is yes. Still, treat every storage option the same way: lock the bag, tag it with your name and a local phone number, and photograph what's inside and the place you left it. A Georgian SIM card gives you a local number for the tag and for the staff to call if anything changes.

Check whether your travel insurance covers items in storage before you leave anything expensive. Insurance is now required to enter Georgia, so you'll have a policy anyway; read its luggage clause before you go.

Luggage storage elsewhere in Georgia

Outside Tbilisi, most bus stations and railway stations have a left luggage room, and they're usually cheaper than the capital's. In Batumi, Lock & Go runs self-storage on Rustaveli Street, useful if you're spending a few days on the coast and heading into the mountains without your beach bag.

Key takeaways

  • The best value in central Tbilisi is the left luggage room at 11 Pushkin Street, 7 GEL per bag per 24 hours whatever the size.
  • SmartCase lockers on Freedom Square run 24 hours from about 10 GEL for 8 hours, but take exact cash only and fit a backpack, not a suitcase.
  • The airport desk (10 GEL a day) and the railway station (20 GEL per 24 hours) suit layovers and train days, not a day in the center.
  • For a week or more away, Depot Storage collects bags for free and charges by the month.
  • Never leave your passport, cash or electronics in storage.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I store my luggage in Tbilisi?

The easiest places are the left luggage room at 11 Pushkin Street, the SmartCase lockers on Freedom Square, and the second set of SmartCase lockers on Kote Afkhazi Street in the Old Town. The airport, the railway station and the Didube and Ortachala bus stations also have left luggage desks, and apps like LuggageHero and Radical Storage list partner shops around the center.

Does Tbilisi Airport have luggage storage?

Yes. There's a left luggage desk in the arrivals hall, open 24 hours, charging 10 GEL a day for bags up to 90 cm and 20 GEL a day for larger items. It's best for layovers or a bag you won't need until you fly home.

Is there luggage storage at Tbilisi railway station?

Yes. The left luggage office is at the far left end of platform 1 at Tbilisi Central Station and charges 20 GEL per locker for 24 hours. It's staffed from morning to evening, so it's not the place for a bag you need back late at night.

How much does luggage storage cost in Tbilisi?

Expect 7 to 20 GEL per bag per day. The Pushkin Street room charges 7 GEL per 24 hours, SmartCase lockers about 15 GEL for 24 hours, the airport 10 or 20 GEL a day and the railway station 20 GEL; storage apps run about €5 a day.

Are there luggage lockers in Tbilisi?

Yes. SmartCase runs automated lockers 24 hours a day on Freedom Square and on Kote Afkhazi Street in the Old Town, and the railway station has staffed lockers. The Freedom Square lockers are too small for a medium suitcase, so use the Old Town ones or the Pushkin Street room for a big bag.

Can I leave my luggage at my hotel after checkout?

Usually, yes. Most hotels, guesthouses and hostels in Tbilisi hold guests' bags for free on checkout day. Apartments with self check-in often can't, so ask before you book.

Where can I store luggage long term in Tbilisi?

Depot Storage is the best option for a week or more. It picks bags up for free from central Tbilisi and charges by the month, from 10 GEL for a small bag to 40 GEL for a 40 kg one. SmartCase lockers have a 30-day limit and cost far more over that time.
